The Zoo – 150th Anniversary Production

The Box Office is now open shortly St David’s Players production of the charming one-act comic opera The Zoo, with music by Arthur Sullivan and a libretto by B. C. Stephenson (writing under the pen name of Bolton Rowe).

Set at the London Zoological Gardens, the humorous story concerns two pairs of lovers. First, a nobleman, who goes to the zoo to woo the girl who sells snacks there. He tries to impress her by buying and eating all of the food. The other couple is a young chemist who believes that he has poisoned his beloved by mixing up her father’s prescription with peppermint that he had meant for her.

A tale of love, humour and folly, St David’s Players will be conducting three performances of The Zoo at Stephen’s Church, High Street, Exeter, at 3.30pm, 6pm and 8pm, on Saturday April 5th, 2025.

Coming Soon: The Pirates of Penzance

This autumn, St Davids Players is proud to reveal they’ll be performing one of Gilbert & Sullivan’s greatest and most entertaining works – The Pirates of Penzance.

The Pirates of Penzance tells the story of Frederic, a young man mistakenly apprenticed to a band of pirates until his 21st birthday, who falls in love with Mabel, daughter of the bumbling Major-General Stanleyhowever. However, a twist reveals Frederic was born on a leap day, meaning he technically hasn’t reached 21, forcing him back to the pirates until his next birthday decades later. Through comical situations, love, and a maid’s revelation, can Frederic ultimately escapes his pirate duty and wins Mabel’s hand?
